University of Lincoln gains international standard for Environmental Management

The University has been formally accredited with the international standard for Environmental Management (ISO 14001).

This accolade comes as a result of an external audit of our Environmental Management System (EMS) in December 2019.

The accreditation covers all University activities and operations on our land. Along with the ISO14001, we were also awarded EcoCampus Platinum, which builds on our Gold award presented by EcoCampus in August 2019.

This award demonstrates that the environmental impact of University operations is being managed effectively, and that environmental awareness is embedded across the institution.

The audit received input from colleagues from across the University, including senior management, technicians, academic and professional service staff involved in helping the University to protect and enhance the environment.

The next steps include the launch of a new sustainability strategy which has been developed following the declaration of the climate and ecological crisis in May 2019. A new lecture series, focused on climate action and environmental awareness, will also be launched in Spring 2020. The series will feature a variety of speakers, lectures will not only cover practical climate action but also the world-leading climate science being undertaken from within the University.

Rebecca Forster, Environmental Manager at the University of Lincoln said: “We are delighted to receive the ISO14001 standard for environmental management. It’s required the input and support of staff and students from across the University and is recognition of their passion and commitment to environmental management”.
